International student services
Deakin University is committed to providing assistance and
support to all international students throughout their time at
Deakin University. Services that help make university more
enjoyable and easier to handle are available including airport
reception, an orientation program, study skills assistance,
financial and legal advice, careers advice, health care and
personal counselling. On-campus accommodation is available at all
campuses and assistance with off-campus or homestay accommodation
is provided.
Students are taught by highly qualified academic staff and enjoy
excellent educational facilities across all campuses, including
up-to-date computing resources (24-hour access), laboratories,
studios, workshops and libraries. A range of student clubs and
associations provide an excellent opportunity to participate in
sports and social activities and widen networks of friends.
Accommodation
There are four main types of accommodation available to Deakin
students: long-term on-campus University accommodation, rented
private accommodation, full-board accommodation, and homestay
accommodation for DUELI students.
On-campus accommodation
Accommodation is available in student residential villages at
the Geelong Campus at Waurn Ponds, the Warrnambool Campus and the
Melbourne Campus at Burwood. Each resident is housed in single room
accommodation and has phone and computer access. Bedrooms are
furnished, heated and carpeted. There are shared bathrooms,
kitchens, laundry and recreational areas. The colleges have a
common room with meeting rooms, kitchen, television area and a

Private off-campus accommodation
Many international students choose to rent flats, apartments or
houses with other students. Deakin University Student Association
(DUSA4U) provides students who are members with assistance in
finding off-campus accommodation. Deakin International can also
assist you to find temporary accommodation until a permanent place

Homestay
You may also find accommodation in a homestay or other private
board with Australian families. Homestays offer a safe, caring
environment in which to study while you become immersed in the
Australian way of life. Homestays cost around A$200-240 per week,
paid directly to the Homestay host.
The Homestay program is only available to DUELI students at
present. However, full-board, shared accommodation options are also
available as private off-campus accommodation to international
students.
Airport pickup
If you are arriving at Deakin University for the first time you
can be met at Melbourne Airport by a Deakin University Reception
Officer and be taken to your accommodation on-campus, or to
temporary accommodation. This is a free service and Reception
Officers are often senior Deakin students. You will receive further
information in your offer pack.
Orientation meetings
Deakin International runs an Enrolment and Orientation Program
at the start of each semester. The Program is a vital introduction
to life as a student and presents information that will help you to
succeed at Deakin.
During the program, you will:
- be welcomed to Deakin University and to Melbourne, Geelong or
Warrnambool
- be introduced to the Peer Support network and various support
staff
- formally enrol in your course of study, and meet with Faculty
staff
- tour the campus
- learn about the many services and facilities available at
Deakin including the student association and clubs
- meet with fellow students - social functions are an important
part of the program.
Scholarship
Deakin University is committed to providing its international
masters and doctoral research students with the support they need.
