Graduates on the world stage
You’ll find graduates from Australian institutions in
high-level positions around the world. Here are just a
few.
James David Wolfensohn was President of the
World Bank from 1995 to 2005. He studied arts and law at the
University of Sydney. He is now the chairman of the International
Advisory Board of Citigroup.
Douglas Daft was the former CEO of Coca-Cola
worldwide and is now a corporate director of Wal-Mart. He has a
degree in mathematics from the University of New England and a
graduate degree in administration from the University of NSW.
David Mackay is President and CEO of Kelloggs,
the world’s largest cereal and convenience food company. He studied
business at Charles Sturt University.
Kiran Majumdar-Shaw founded Biocon India, an
early biotechnology company, which was publicly listed on the stock
market in April 2004. This made her India's richest woman in 2004.
She is a graduate of the University of Ballarat.
Jacques Nasser is the ex-CEO of the Ford Motor
Company and now a non-executive director of BHP Billiton. He has a
degree in business studies from RMIT University.
Mike Quigley is the former President of Alcatel
America and CEO of Alcatel USA. He studied physics, mathematics and
electrical engineering at the University of New South Wales.
Dr Gullapalli Rao completed his PhD at the
University of NSW. He has succeeded in delivering high quality,
low-cost, sustainable eye-care to an Indian population in great
need. He is also President and CEO of the International Agency for
the Prevention of Blindness.
Other graduates on the world stage include the first Japanese
astronaut, government ministers in many countries, Hollywood actors
