Student visas
Your local IDP office can help you with your
visa requirements.
To study in Australia, you need to be granted
a student visa. Visa applications are different depending on your
country and your level of study. Overall, you will need to meet the
following requirements.
- You must have a ‘letter of offer’ from a
registered Australian course (see the CRICOS register)
- You need to provide your health details and obtain
health insurance (OSHC - Overseas
Student Health Cover)
- You must show that you have the required finances (at
least A$12,000 a year for living costs)
- You may need to demonstrate your English language proficiency
with an IELTS test score
- You must be of good character
- If you are under 18 years, you must have pre-arranged
accommodation
This is a brief overview only. For detailed
information on visa requirements, talk to your IDP counsellor or visit the
Department of Immigration and
Citizenship (DIAC) website.
For courses less than three months (such as an
English language course), you may obtain a visitor visa or a
working holiday visa.
