English language testing (IELTS)
English is the official language of Australia
and the language in which your course will be taught. You may need
to take a test to show your English language skills. Your visa
subclass and assessment level will determine the level of English
language proficiency you need to show.
For the most recent details on visa
requirements please talk to your IDP counsellor or see the Department of
Immigration and Citizenship.
The International English Language Testing
System (IELTS) is the only test of English accepted by the
Department of Immigration and Citizenship. IELTS provides a
reliable assessment of a candidate's ability to read, write, speak
and listen in English.
There are two forms of the IELTS test –
Academic and General. The Academic module is for those studying
at university. The General module may be used by those studying at
school or a vocational institution. Check with your IDP counsellor
or institution about which test is required.
IELTS is available in more than 120 countries.
